Two Redditch hair and beauty entrepreneurs have made a second major investment into their salon as they prepare to launch a new training academy to help young people make a career in the booming hair trade. Businesswomen Lauren Alekna and Stacey Tudor, who teamed up 12 months ago to takeover Evesham Road-based Legends Hair & Beauty, have announced their plans following the completion of the second phase of their salon refurbishment programme. The ambitious duo pumped £100,000 into buying the established Redditch salon last summer and have followed that up with a £23,000 investment which they say will play a vital role in preparing the salon for the future. The latest refreshment has seen an outlay of £16,000 in a variety of areas including new seating, basins and signage. £7,000 has also been invested in a range of new marketing materials – including an innovative booking system which allows customers to make appointments through their new-look website and social networking site, Facebook. Lauren, 29 and 27-year-old Stacey, employ 20 full and part time staff at the salon and believe next year’s launch of Prestige, their planned training academy and apprentice programme, will help them to offer more local jobs and specialist qualifications. Stacey said: “The salon has had a well-established training programme for staff for a long time and that has always been popular. But we are now ready to take that to the next level and through the Prestige programme, we’ll be teaching young people new methods, the role technology is playing, the business side of things, and showcasing the latest hair and beauty techniques. “We want to... read more
A Redditch hair and beauty salon has showcased its talent in the regional finals of a major industry competition. Legends Hair & Beauty made it through for the first time to the Midlands regional finals of the Wella Trend Vision Awards, with the Evesham Road-based salon pipped at the post to make the national finals in the ‘Young Talent’ category. The nationwide competition saw over 3,000 UK salons entering with Legends making it to the region’s last 20 where stylist and colour expert Zoe Brandrick took to the live competition floor to showcase her ‘urban native’ style on Redditch model, Kirsty Richardson. Zoe, from Lakeside, Redditch, had one hour to style the hair and present to a panel of judges at the event in Nottingham. “As a team we’re so proud to have reached the regional finals of such a respected competition. To get to the final 20 for the whole of the West Midlands was a great experience and has helped put us on the map.” said Zoe, 26. “While it’s disappointing we didn’t make it through to the London finals in October we have picked up some great hints and tips for next year. We’re looking forward to it already and have another chance to demonstrate our flair and approach to hair colour, cut and style. “Despite missing out on the finals we’ve come back from Nottingham absolutely buzzing with new ideas which we can’t wait to present to our customers.” It has been a whirlwind 12 months for the Redditch salon. They hit the headlines last year after being taken over by local businesswomen Stacey Tudor and Lauren Alekna following a £100,000 investment. The salon employs 22 specialist staff, which includes five... read more
